Hello everyone,
I have a GT Bravado with an 8×3 XT groupset. I would like to convert it to a 1×10 setup, as affordably as possible but also with the best possible quality.
What all do I need for this, and which components do you recommend? This is my first time doing this, so unfortunately I don't have much experience yet 🙂
Thanks in advance and best regards.

“as affordably as possible” combined with “best possible quality” could mean 5Dev titanium cranks purchased from some place online that has them $100 less than everyone else. We need a little more to work with. What’s your budget?
New cranks, and a narrow wide chainring, 1x chainring bolts.
Not sure if a 10 speed casette will fit on the rear wheel. Ypu will also need a new chain
I have had luck using an aliexpress narrow wide chainring, bolts, cranks and casette for that budget stuff, but putting on nice cranks really makes a bike imo. You will still want a kmc or shimano chain from a reputable source.
Just check the if your rear wheel will accept a 10 speed casette fist. Otherwise you will need a new wheel aswell.
IIRC some hubs have a cassette body that does 8-10 and some 9-11
If you can find a 10spd cassette to borrow and try I’d start there.
If it fits (body and frame) then all you need is to buy your own and a set of derailleur and shifter that can handle 10spd and then know the spacing on the bolts on your crank and get a narrow wide that matches.
Otherwise you’ll need a new cassette body, longer to accommodate the cassette, and then need to dish the wheel (push the hub to the left, the rim to the right, to make room for the cassette and keep the tire centered)
You’re kind of on your own when it comes to what size chainring to run, I don’t know where you live, your fitness and your preferences. But I guess a good place to start is match whichever gear from your 3x you used the most
I’m no expect but I did some research for myself some time ago and this is what I remember from it
this bike is a beauty. what’s the reason you want to change? I did not do a conversion myself but I really like the looks of old MTB 3×7/8/9s.
sorry for piggy backing on your post: what is the front rack?
I like to use a gxp crankset with hollow tech bottom bracket from AliExpress. Used to be able to get a nice machined aluminum crankset branded Goldix or Cruze but I can’t find it anymore. You should be able to fit a 10 or 11 speed cassette in place of the 8 speed. You will probably need a new derailleur or goat link depending on the size of the cassette as well as shifter.

Keep it 3x
I would put a microshift advent X on it. Don’t have to change out the freehub and it’s right in the budget.
Deore M5100? It’s definitely within your budget and a good quality package.
Last I checked, shifter goes for ~15€, cassette for ~50€, bb and crankset for ~50€, and derailleur for 25€.
Your 8-speed wheel should fit a 11 speed shimano MTB cassette with no issues.
What’s wrong with 3×8? There’s little advantage to jump to 1x. The only reason modern bikes are 1x is because of modern designs trying to pair fat tires with short chainstays. Your bike has neither
