In my younger days a foam pad like this was perfectly fine but I’ve since switched to air, it’s all personal preference but I’ll never go back at this point

Both my son and I took one of those for a 4 week bike-packing tour of Oman. They are brilliant. Yes, they are bulky, but they are perfect for sitting when folded. For lying on when camping or stopping under a tree for a rest. And they are great under the tent groundsheet as protection for the blow-up mattress. Highly recommend.

part of me wants to switch from my nice thermarest to a folding foam pad. the advantage would be you could take it out and lie down nearly anywhere without having to unroll and blow up your mattress. Lots of areas that you want to chill but dont have a bench nearby, and this solves that issue. it is bulky however so hopefully the rest of your set up doesnt take up too much space.
