Hello,

I have recently brought this second hand Cannondale Caad10 and during my yesterday's ride I lost a chainring bolt which I noticed because the outer chainring seemed to be wobbly. With this in mind I have two questions:

1- Can the wobbliness be cause by the loss of the bolt? It is not a big wobbliness but enough for the chain to hit the front derailleur.

2- Is the chainring wore down to the point that it would better to fix the issue by just replacing it? I found a set of exactly these in mantel.be by 99 euros.

Thanks for your help!

  1. Yes, the wobbliness can be caused by the missing bolt. No, the chainring does not look too worn yet.

Edit: The part that is wobbling outwards coincides with the missing bolt.

  3. Wobbling can definately be because of the missing chainring bolt if its only the rings that are flexing but if the whole chainset is moving you have other issues.

Large chainring is worn but its nowhere near as bad as many that I have seen on here. You would be well advised to check your chain for stretch because a worn chain will wear out the chainrings and cassette causing premature failure and it gets expensive if you have to replace everything.

Not a big issue but it also looks like the outer chainring isnt correctly aligned. I would fix that at the same time.
Looking at your picture there is a small hole approx 3 oclock. This hole should have pin in it and it should be hidden behind the crankarm.
