Hello,
I am looking at upgrading my tire size and slapping on some honjo fenders. I like to take my bike (Surly Midnight Special) on all types of terrain. I am primarily riding on road/gravel/light single track. But living in New England, some of the single track turns pretty chunky. The current fenders I have go about half way down the tire, but in most photos I see honjo fenders going much closer to the road. Will this affect my ability to roll off of rocks or hop over the occasional small log? Thanks for your input.

FWIW, sticks and rocks can get stuck and fold fenders. IDK how sturdy Honjos are, but I imagine a stick getting between the wheel and the mudflap could take the fender out.
The thing is that unless your front fender (or mudflat) is super low it doesn’t protect you much. Either way your shoes get wet.
If you roll off a log or curb too slowly, you can catch the back of your fender. I use mine off road, but not for anything technical.
The fenders can be cut down easily with a hacksaw before setup. Use a tall curb or something to see where the fender were to hit if you were to roll off of a drop. Use this as a reference and cut the fender. And set up as normal
One word:
mud
avoid it

I Honjo fenders and have not ridden much off road with them, but our paved trails are pretty rough in the winter and they are holding up fine.
You can add extra stays to give more support.
Your setup is amaze
Awesome bike. What light mount is that?
I have Honjos on my bike and do all the same riding you do. I’m in PA so we’re probably riding similar terrain and my fenders have held up quite nicely. They’re custom fit so you can find a nice medium between coverage and clearance. I haven’t had my fenders make contact with anything they shouldn’t, even dropping off of curbs. Maybe I’ve been lucky but I haven’t had any problems with objects getting stuck and bending the fenders or stays but if you’re worried about that I’m sure you can get the safety tabs that allow the fender to pop off in that scenario. I have had mud jam up my ride though so watch for that.
