    This is normal, if you look up the crankset images online you’ll see that they don’t have caps on the non drive side.

    I don’t think so. Drive side is a crank bolt with a threaded “cap” on it that serves as something to push against so the crank arm will self-extract when you unscrew the crank bolt. Typically SRAM GXP and similar cranks just leave the other side open. You are looking at the inside end of the hollow crank spindle where it is pressed into the crank arm. In practice, not much dirt gets in there even on mountain bikes. Pretty easy to clean out if any does I guess.

    It used to be that the crank bolt would be in the non-drive side arm, and the drive side would that the hollow side for SRAM. Maybe that is why it looks weird to you.

    Shimano is “hallow” on the the drive side but SRAM is hollow on the non drive side. That’s how it’s supposed to be
