I wouldn’t be a cyclist if it weren’t for ebikes. Why can’t we be inclusive with this???? We can find safety while also being inclusive.

  2. “Over 100 *ableist* cyclists, pedestrians and victims gathered at Central Park to stop eBike riding in NYC parks. ”

Fixed that for you. Ebikes are used by people who struggle with walking. Not only that they’re used by people who use their cargo bikes to carry their children and goods around the city, which might have otherwise been a more dangerous motor vehicle trip.

I’m fucking sick of illegally modified electric motorbikes being conflated with legal eBikes because of some venture capitalists will only pay their gig economy workers by the delivery rather than by the hour combined with lazy journalism. eBikes make the world safer and greener.

  3. The issue seems similar to the one with cars where the infrastructure encourages speeds that are not safe for the environment. The discussion should be about how to build infrastructure that encourages slower speeds. I have not seen a lot of research on slowing bikes down. Sounds like you have something like a stroad environment for bikes.

Good for them. E-bikes and illegal vehicles have caused a lot of fear and terror. One of the biggest fears to New Yorkers is getting hit by an electric micromobility device. I can imagine how fearful families with little kids can be.

There must’ve been complaints where I live too. I’ve noticed new signs and a 20mph speed limit sign on the local path

  6. There’s just something about devices that deliver lots of torque for no physical effort that attracts assholes.

For me, pedal assist are okay. It’s the ones with throttles that are just lower powered motorcycles that don’t belong on bike/walk trails. If you don’t have to pedal it at all, it doesn’t belong on a bike trail.
