A few months ago, I bought a pair of used SRAM Force AXS D2 shifters on a Ukrainian marketplace for €150. It was somthng like "bikes from Europe" shop.
Then, when my mechanic started assembling the bike, he noticed the front brake lever wouldn’t return properly after being pressed.
Turns out, someone had bled the system with mineral oil instead of DOT fluid. The seals inside the lever had swelled and jammed the hydraulic mechanism.
Every mechanic I spoke to in Kyiv (more than 5 different people + pro cyclists) said the same thing:
And of course, a new lever costs €200+, which made it even more frustrating.
But I wasn’t ready to give up — so I turned to ChatGPT.
Together, we went deep into SRAM manuals, exploded views, Reddit threads, random forums, seal size databases, DOT compatibility charts… it was madness. I even visited a local car market to ask motorcycle mechanics if they had hydraulic seals that might fit. (They didn’t.)
Then ChatGPT gave me a new idea:
So I searched. And I found one — not just a shop, but a full-blown hydraulic engineering workshop, the kind that works on heavy machinery, cylinders, pumps, and valves.
Located in a tiny town near Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
I reached out, sent them photos, measurements, and a desperate story. And guess what?
They made me a custom EPDM seal kit, DOT-compatible — for €10. The dream.
But then, Act II:
My mechanic was so excited when he got the seals… he rushed the install and tore one of them 😅
(He forgot to lube it properly before pressing it into the piston.)
I almost killed him.
So I ordered a second round. This time, very slowly, we installed them.
And it worked. The lever is buttery smooth and 100% functional again.
This whole journey honestly helped me believe in myself again — and made me use AI even more.
Because literally everyone, with decades of experience, told me to give up.
But I didn’t. And now I’ve got a working lever, a cheaper bike, and a story I’ll never forget.
If you’re struggling with a swollen SRAM lever and don’t know what to do — feel free to DM me. I’ll be happy to help you put together your own custom seal kit. 💪

Bravo for going against the grain and believing in serviceability
this was actually my very first Reddit post — and I just realized that **none of the quotes got formatted properly** 😅 Sorry about that!
Here are the two key quotes that were supposed to stand out:

The post probably reads a bit awkward without them — so thanks for your patience 🙏
Ya love to see it!
