I had my first bikepacking trip in 5 years. Rode from Helsinki into Nuuksio National Park for an overnight. The route was 90% dirt, 85% beautiful gravel, and 100% fun. In the park there were many punchy hills, 20-30 meters vertical on steep, loose gravel. By the end I had to walk up these. I reserved a little hut on a lake — no electricity, no running water, but a passable wood-fired sauna. It was quite cold so the sauna was important (also it helped with the obligatory cold plunge in the lake). Woke up freezing and didn't really warm up on the ride back home except for a brief stop in a roadside burger joint.

For my kit, I just patched it together with a bunch of random bits. Worked pretty well.

Happy to hear recommendations about other short trips in the capital region.

Nice Rig, Cool Trip. Love the Sauna enthusiasm! Is that a Karate Monkey? Size M? can you fit 2 bottles plus a half frame bag in there?

Thanks for the post and pics! I’ve lived in Finland all my life and not even once rented one of those cabin/saunas. Gotta get that checked from my bucket list this summer.

    Nice!

Looks not surprisingly very similar to trails here in Sweden.

Are you allowed to bike on trails in national park?

Looks lovely! Is it spring there? Are plants beginning to wake up from winter?

Question about your rig – do you find it challenging not being able to see your front wheel when navigating through water and over rocks and roots?
