I am trying to find something to help get me around this summer. I am not old enough yet for a drivers license. I found an old raleigh r500 for free, but the brake things that shift the gears were broken. It would be a lot of money to replace. I kept looking and found this Raleigh Sportif for 20$. The guy said it works fine and just needs minor adjustment to the gears. Is it a good deal? Thanks for any advice.

Also if anyone has any cheap solutions to the brake gear shifty thingy thats broken on the r500, I would really appreciate it. I took it to multiple stores and they both said it would cost around 350$ all in to replace them, and I did confirm they were really broken, not just gunked up with old grease.
Is there a Coop anywhere near you? It’s a good deal if you could fix it up yourself, or have a Coop or shop night you can go to.
Wait sorry, I dont fully get what’s broken? Is it the derailleur that is stuck? Or is it the lever that shifts the derailleur into place that is stuck?
