My shoes are around 11 years and still going strong. (No idea how but they are.)

Except – the little plates that fit over the SPD area for non-SPD use have, this past week, cracked and started to disintegrate. I don't anticipate them to see the week out.

Can you buy new covers that screw in over SPD compatible shoes? Or am I looking at getting a new pair of flats?

  1. Yes, I bought some off eBay – think they were Shimano? I’ll have a look, hang on.

I have a pair that I was gifted, I would think you could diy with the piece of sole you cut out when they were new shoes and like shock cord or velcro.come to think of it maybe these things that look like socks are the opposite of what you seek, never opened them. Way back there were shoe covers for like rain and snow but not bicycle specific, pull over boot only shoe high

if you know people using Spd ask around, they might have a pile lying at home in a box, and they’d be happy to hand them over

  4. If you can’t find a replacement, use Shoe Goo. You’re never going to install cleats, correct?

Shoe Goo is really thick, but still viscous. Squeeze a big dollop and it will flatten out slowly. Just don’t overdo it and let it run all over the sole. It can even be flatten out will wax paper if necessary.

if you are determined to keep using those shoes as flats, I would just fill that entire void with RTV automotive sealant or caulk or something. You probably aren’t finding a replacement filler piece.
