Hi all!

I'm around 3 weeks (including a week spent bouldering in Fountainebleau, France) into my first long-distance solo cycling trip from the UK to Budapest.
I intentionally kept my route planning light, with the rough idea to head along the EV6 route for the final week or 2.

This has worked out really well for me so far; for example, I ended up cycling the Swiss Lakes route (no.9) based purely on a Warmshowers host's suggestion, which has been incredible!

However, as I'm now heading out of Switzerland (currently en route to Buchs), I was wondering if anyone has any experience of any interesting sights/towns/hikes/cycle routes between the north-east area of Switzerland, and Vienna? Am mostly interested in natural beauty but also interesting museums/places of historical significance.

My rough idea so far is to follow the Bordensee cycle route around the north side of the lake, and join up with EV6 from there; but would rather have some stops/places of interest planned as opposed to just following the cycle path! I'm also open to heading through Austria instead, but am not sure of what I'd want to visit (apart from any interesting hiking routes).

I've been wanting to have a bit of a break from cycling so am also looking at some hikes around Buchs if anyone has hiked around this area of Switzerland/Liechtenstein!

I'm mostly camping each night and have around a month to reach Budapest; I tend to cover around 60-80km but this has been very flexible so far as I haven't got a strict itinerary.

Thanks in advance for any advice, I appreciate my request may be a bit vague but I really am open to any sort of direction as I'm a bit overwhelmed with the possibilities right now!

Cheers,
Jon

I would rather take the route south of Lake Constance on the swiss side. Nice cycle paths and much less traffic. If you like you can take the ferry from Konstanz to Überlingen to get to the north side without crossing the mountains.

If you take the north route you should visit the cities by the shore of the lake: Bregenz (maybe take the cable car to the Pfänder to have a 100km view over the whole lake), Lindau (esp. the old town island), there’s a Dornier airplane museum in Friedrichshafen, nice old-town in Meersburg, in Unteruhldingen there’s a museum with bronce-age Pile Dwellings. If you have time, you should also take a trip with the ships that shuttle the lake by the hour. You can take your bike on the ship to save some km.
