I'm looking for some tires that would be better for climbs and a bit of tarmac traversals which I have to do to get to my local trails. Currently running F/R 2.6 XR4's. Yes, I'm willing to sacrifice little bit of grip and comfort. While looking up sóme alternatives like 2.6 Rekon and 2.6 Ikon combo, Vittoria Agarro in 2.4 etc., I kinda settled on Forecasters front and rear in 2.4. Is that a good idea? I ride in dry conditions, mostly forest trails/flow trails with occasional smaller jumps here or there. Here's a link to a yt video that got me thinking about Forecasters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxX5GQ7n1MI

I run a forecaster 2.4 on the front and an ardent on the back of my xc boke. Great combination of grip and decent fast rolling

I’ve head about some pretty nasty crashes cause by Forecasters popping off rims while cornering hard. This is a guy who’s been riding since before I was born. I would never try them based off that alone

Having ridden both Forekasters aren’t any faster than XR4s, plus they’re going to be heavier. They’re pretty comparable tires.

If you want to go faster on pavement you’ll need to step down to an even lower profile tread, especially in the rear. Try a Rekon or Mezcal.

Forekaster (front) rekon (rear) could be considered instead.

On my xc bike I run rekon / rekon race, and works great on pavement and also dry trails. Definitely faster.

I have a short travel bike set up with aggressor / rekon which I haven’t tried yet. Sort of wish I did forekaster / rekon instead.

XR4’s blow..sidewalls are tissue paper and they just don’t grip that well

I’ll actually disagree with another user and say Forekasters are AWESOME. They roll very well and they will certainly grip better than the xr4’s

Ive run a Forekaster V2 exo+ maxterra in the rear with an assegai and DHR2 in the front. Great traction and speed and would absolutely trust running one on the front and rear together.

  6. I’m using a vittoria mazza front and mezcal rear. I needed to try something other than maxxis because a maxxis maxterra tire only lasts me about 1.5 months on the back of my bike before it’s shredded.

Tried vittoria and they are really really good and the mezcal in the rear has been on my bike since December and has life left.

The mazza in the front is like a lighter dhf.

This combo grips hard and rolls fast. It’s been great in the northeast with our hardpack, mixed, rocks and roots.
