It doesn’t seem to matter what compass orientation I’m using. The arrow is always pointing at 45 degrees to the direction I’m traveling but only when I’m biking. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

either hit the compass icon or tap on the white part below, go to settings and search for the option to keep the map in the driving direction
YES! I thought I was alone it drive me crazy
There used to be an option somewhere in GM to calibrate the compass. Between that and re-centre, that should fix it. If not, the phones internals may be a bit wackadoo. Had an old iPhone 7 where the arrow marker wouldn’t face the right way no matter what
That looks like 90 degrees to me
Are you using a magnetic case to keep the phone in or attach it to the bike? A compass relies on the magnetic field of the earth, and if your phone has a magnetic compass – it’ll be affected by another magnet.
You can test this by removing it from the mount.
Every now and then calibrate the compass of your phone. Open the google maps app and move your phone a few times as described [here](https://support.google.com/maps/answer/2839911?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1&sjid=11973347815401107021-EU#calibrate_phone_android&zippy=%2Ccalibrate-your-phone-or-tablet).
Have you restarted your phone?
Yes – why does this only happen when cycling? Never walking or driving.
You can move your phone around in an ♾️ shape a few times to recalibrate the compass
