



Hi all! Looking at my first gravel bike (that would be used on road & gravel). I understand this was built for commuting, but I hear nothing but great things about the Surly Midnight Special.
Thoughts? I think that a new handlebar and tires would be needed at some point.

Moving to drop bars would require shifter/brake levers, which are expensive.
To my eyes/in my area that looks to be about $600 overpriced. I wouldn’t do unless it’s exactly what you want.
No bro, not for that price at least. That’s a commuter/hybrid whatever you wanna call it. You won’t be shredding gravel/covering long distances with such geometry. Converting it to a road bike won’t be as simple as slapping drop bars on it. Look elsewhere unless a commuter/hybrid bike is what you want.
Good price, excellent price if you were paying someone to build it up for you and those are the exact parts you want and it was never ridden.
If it’s the parts you actually want, then it’s not terrible. But the question is what “low miles” actually means, objectively.
It’s not terrible but it’s more than I’d pay for a used bike with few exceptions.
But if it really is low miles and you are content with all the specs, then it’s not bad. It would cost me more to build a clone.
Unfortunately it sounds like this isn’t the build you want which means more money spent.
You can buy a new and better bike for road and gravel for that money. Another classic example of someone trying to recoup their money on the bike and all the “upgrades” but with used bikes you normally dont get that luxury unless they are serious upgrades. Or they dont really wanna sell it and are just trying to appease their spouse “look, its for sale! 😉”
