Hi everyone. I have a Tailfin carbon rack and now I want to buy a 3l frame bag.I'm trying to decide which bag to buy. The Apidura weighs 145g, the Tailfin 290g. Weight is important to me, of course, but quality is also important. The Tailfin's frame attachment looks more reliable and strong, and there's also a frame inside for strength and shape. The Apidura looks more like a stocking. Which bag would you buy?

  1. Apidura bags aren’t great to be honest. Have seen more than one example of them falling apart.

I had the appidura bag. My issue with it was those zip covering flaps after awhile stuck out and rubbed my legs. They wouldn’t lay flat. Had to go. Otherwise it was fine. Now using Restrap. I have Tailfin rack which is brilliant. So I’d recommend Tailfin. Tailfin has a huge range of bag sizes to.

Had I not already bought the restrap bag I’d have bought Tailfin one.

  3. I have an apidura bag – it’s…. okay…. – also their customer service is bad… however I’d still choose it above the tailfin

  4. Tailfin bags with their mounting system stays in position. It works some much better than plain straps like that Apidura (which doesn’t look demonstrably different from a Rockbros bag). Tailfin has an excellent warranty and backs their products with little questioning. I am not saying Apidura doesn’t – no experience – but I’ve seen in person and on here a number of Apidura bags fall apart (unwelding).

I don’t think any bag is truly “waterproof” if it has zippers. I would buy the Tailfin.

  5. I have an apidura top tube bag. Its OK, but in your picture I can tell the bag has the same texture on the outside. You should be aware that it loves to collect dirt & dust and is kind of a pain to clean. The top tube bag is decent but my next one will definitely take that into consideration.

  6. I have both. The Tailfin is way more sturdy and seem better quality. I haven’t had any problems with the zipper on neither.

I’m team Apidura, have been for years. Great products and amazing customer service IMO

  8. If you get an Apidura frame pack make sure it has flat zippers, the flaps are annoying.

I don‘t like frame bags at all. Once packed they gain width and rub (at least my) legs. I solved the space issue with Ortlieb bags on my Tailfin rack (adapter available from Tailfin) and a somewhat large front bag as counterweight.

I love my apidura frame bag. I did replace the zipper pull. I hated how the plastic pull felt on my fingers

Are they even supposed to be comparable?

Tailfin is more expensive and a fair bit higher quality (using the 4.5l frame bag from both companies that I’ve held both in hand)

Neither of those look ideal. One could be longer and the other looks like it might not have clearance for two water bottles. With so many bag makers out there get what fits best.

I had apidura bags and the seams were not sealed at all. Water ingress everywhere.

  14. 17th opinion here, none of the above as a start.

Go with Apidura full frame bag and their bladder that is shaped to fit, up to 3 litres capacity with a nice hose to attach to your bar.

Easier to drink, cleaner and much more space for that heavy crap which you want to keep low like spare parts and tools that don’t get used very often.

This isn’t just because I do this for a living but my honest opinion is a framebag made to your spec is well worth it and doesn’t cost much more than one off the shelf

I have the Tailfin bag and it works perfect, also in combination with their Toptube bag as they share one of the straps

Tailfin, the hypalon is going to be more waterproof, I can just hose the bike down with it on and no leakage! and the stays keep the bag from bulging into knees and will keep the zips working longer.
