Was out yesterday and I sadly got flats on both wheels. It rained in the morning, so the roads where quite dirty and slightly wet. The first flat was from a flintstone that went through the tire and punctured the tube on the front wheel. The second one was on my rear wheel and I could not figure out the cause. Looks like the tube has been pushed against two holes in the tire next to each other? However, I was not able to identify any holes near the puncture.

• Riding with GP 5000s TR tyres and Schwalbe tubes
• Brand new tyres from this year which I have only been riding for ~900 km

One thing I considered was, if the tyres were bad in terms of puncture resistance, had 5 flats so far 😢 Anyone knows if this is normal for the GPs or any tips of making them more durable?

Those are snake bites likely from a pinch flat. Was the tube folded over itself? Also check your rim tape and make sure none of your spoke holes are exposed. If they are then re-tape the wheel.

  2. Just imo, looks like the tube got folded on itself inside the tire, creating extra friction.

  3. Looks like you’re missing a rim strip. After ensuring the rim strip is intact. Things to make tubes more resilient: buy thorn resistant tubes, make a casing around the new tube with an old one. Add sealant orange seal or stans.

  4. Look like the tube was not sat properly in the tire. Happens to the best of us. Next time put a light coating of talcum powder on the inside of your tire. Best tip I over got given. I’ve never suffered what you have since.

Is your rim strip in good condition? Those holes look caused by a spoke/nipple not being properly covered with a quality rim strip.

  6. I’m there have said it, but I’m reinforcing that this is definitely a rim tape issue. You’re looking at where the tube went into the spoke nipple holes on the rim.

    Possible pinch/pull flat.
Make sure your rim tape/strip is all good. I used to have this problem quite often and it was incredibly frustrating. I started spraying the inside tire and tube with soapy water during install and have not once had that problem again. Hope this helps, I know how much a ride/motivation killer this can be.

ETA- I also switched to Continental tubes and they seem to be higher quality than others. They weigh more though, if that’s a concern of yours.
