The rear brakes of my bike make a lot of noise when braking and are not very powerful. No matter how hard I pull the lever, it will brake very loosely and make a very loud noise. For context, this is a quite new bike with less than 300km on it. I've bought it in 2022 and not used very much. I was thinking to replace both disc and pads. Is there anything I can do as last attempt?

  1. Check the back plate of the brake pads to see if there is any oil on them. Might be the pistons leaking brake fluid.

You can clean your pads and rotor if they’re contaminated (look up how to do this as you should NOT use anything on there that can leave a residue, I use isopropyl alcohol). Also check to see if there’s any glazing on the pads, they can be sanded if so. Rotor should be fine… You can check wear on it by measuring the thickness of it, but on such a short distance they shouldn’t have worn much.

The pads are probably done. For the rotor ’tis but a flesh wound. You can remove the rotors, clean them up, and resurface the braking surface using sandpaper.

You should also bleed the system, there is a high possibility that there is air in the lines and this is causing you to lose braking power.
