I'm 5'9.5" (176.5 cm) with a 32.5" inseam and recently got a Canyon Grizl 7 RAW in size Medium. Based on Canyon’s chart, I fall right between Small and Medium. During setup, I noticed I had to drop the seatpost all the way down to the "0" mark (minimum insertion limit) just to get a comfortable saddle height with flat pedals. It feels great on short rides – stable, not cramped, and I don’t feel overextended – but I’m wondering about long-term fit.

I plan to ride clipless in the future, and I’m concerned that may effectively raise my saddle height further, leaving me with nowhere to go unless I change the saddle or post. I reached out to Canyon support and their Guuru told me to raise the saddle a bit and lower the stem to optimize posture, and that clipless won’t significantly change things. But I’m still hovering over that 30-day return window, and want to make the best long-term choice.

Would sizing down to Small give me more room to dial in my position? Or would I risk being too cramped on longer endurance rides?

I mostly ride 30–60 mile endurance rides with occasional gravel. Appreciate any insights!

It appears you are looking for bike fitting help. Please make sure you post as screenshot of the Canyon size chart for your bike, with your point in it. See [this example](https://imgur.com/a/ALUfXyy)

  2. My personal preference is for a size M bike. I’m 175 cm tall and I also ride a size M Canyon. I don’t have the same model, but based on the recommended sizing, I’m also between size S and M. Size S feels too compact for me in terms of geometry.

I was just wondering if it’s really not possible to lower the saddle by another centimeter or two, even though the markings say otherwise? It’s generally easier to fit a shorter stem with a lower saddle while still maintaining the correct geometry.

  3. Definitely go S. I was in the same spot (177, 84 inseam) tested both at their HQ and M was no Option. S is a perfect fit! From the pic, you might get M working, but S will work without any further modifications.

you have all spacers under your stem. When sizing down you will have a much lower front which can also cause trouble long term. That’s why I changed from S to M (canyon ultimate).

So before changing to S, I would go for a ride removing some spacers to match the maximal stack that you can reach with an S. Then you will see what it feels like in terms of the front. For many people that’s a critical issue. The grizl is already quite low in the front.
You could always flip the stem which some people don’t like because of the looks.
