This post is to help everyone trying to get rear panniers on a road bike (or any bike) especially a carbon one with no mounting points (and i mean none). The inspiration for this was the ortlieb quick rack system which they recently improved with a thru axle with m6 connectors so you could attach the quick rack. It has a single arm that connects to any seat post.

- Picture 1 – is the full set up for a Canyon Roadlite CF 9.0 Here's what you need A Minoura universal rear carrier attachment thru axle (picture 2). they are 183mm and come with attachments for 3 diff thread pitches. p1.0, 1.5, 1.75 (three diff colours). Here mine is attached to a p1.5. https://www.amazon.sg/MINOURA-120-3210-01-Bicycle-Attachment-Universal/dp/B0BJTMPQLJ The great thing is that they have 10mm of spacers (5x 2mm) and the tripple inserts. It also comes with two m5 bolts (different length) which means u can fit just about ANY type of rear rack that would normally bolt onto the frame. if the bolts get rounded just get new ones.
- A rack – i'm just using one from decathlon which is flared to accept disc brakes and large tyres. I did have to further jerry-rig the assembly of the rack as the rear axle is super wide.
- Some form of strapped on mount that can latch on to a seat post (see picture 3). I used an old bike light rubber strap which has a single m4 bolt/screw sticking out. this is important because you need to attach it to a bracket that then attaches to the arms of the rack.
- A "u" bracket that has mounts for the rack arms and another to screw onto to the quick release latch.
after that its quite simple.
Thread the thruaxle through, use the spacers so each end is equidistant from the frame. Then use the two provided bolts to attach the down arms of the rack to the thru axle.
Attach your jerry rigged quick release to the fore-arms of the rack, then strap it on to your post. use some rubber matting or a plastic shim so you don't mark or apply pointed pressure on your carbon seat post.
Done.
no need to spend $300 + on a proprietary system.

Unfortunately this won’t work for modern road bikes which have the drive-side end of the thru axle under a layer of carbon.

I really think there is no way to mount a rack on this type of modern road bike 🙁 Unless somebody design a special rear hub which leaves space on the inside of the dropouts or something …
