*Additional videos showing slipping* – https://imgur.com/a/4oPnTDU

Bought used off marketplace, previous owner used it a couple times.

Has a small amount of surface rust on the cassette and chain.

Was working perfectly for 2 months before the chain started slipping on higher gears when pedaling hard.

Chain does not seem to be stretched or have any stiff links.

The derailleurs high limit has been properly adjusted as well.

Shifter and cable has been replaced.

Doesn't seem to be the freehub as it only slips when pedaling hard on smaller cogs.

Any suggestions as to why this may happen? And what should I do to get the bike back in shape? Any help is appreciated!

Drivetrain: 1×8

Derailleur – Shimano Altus M370

Chain – KMC Z

Cassette – Sunrace 11-40T

  1. The most common cause of this kind of skipping is new chain installed on a worn cassette, or cassette wear has just reached the point of no return.

I suspect this bike was used more than you were told. That chainring looks pretty worn, and it’s got a lot of sandy looking grit packed around the teeth.

Badly lubed / gritty chain + more miles than you may have been told = skipping cassette.

yeah, my chain was slipping while going up hills and in low gears, it caused the very recent blowup of my derailleur on a 19 year old full sus. bike. all parts were original, including the tires.

Would be nice to get some links to parts or upgrades.
