Hello, is this wear normal for a KMC X10.93 chain that is the stock chain grizl AL 6 comes with. I have the 2bi one and shimano components. Moreover any suggestions for a good new chain are welcome. I been cleaning and lubing the bike with the all condition muc off lube, I heard is not the best but still.
Thanks

What condition is your cassette or chainrings?
Really depends on the amount of torque you’re shifting under. Do you ever jump multiple gears with one shift?
10 or 11 speed? 10 speed you can wait until .75, 11 or 12 speed you want to change chains at .5
Did you remove the factory grease from the chain? It attracts dirt and operates like grinding paste! And…KMC chains don’t last as long as most other brands.
If there’s a quick link just pop it off and swap it . Really simple job . I usually swap mine at .50 but I also work at a shop lol 😬. Like others said you could wait tho probably check it again in a couple months .
As an anecdote, the chain itself isn’t bad quality or anything, it’s all about the lube method.
I’m at a little bit over 4500km on mine but I use Silca Hot Wax.
The result? Park Tool chain checker still shows nowhere near 0,5 wear. I’ll probably hit the 10000km mark with it.
I never got great mileage from 10-speed KMC chains, they wear or stretch really quickly. I would just buy 2 at a time and accept that they’re not going to last. In contrast, the SRAM chains that are on my 2 newest bikes are holding up really well easily double the mileage I got from KMC. You get what you pay for?
Check with another tool.
What gears do you use? Do you switch your gears properly? Do you power it through in uphills on a wrong shift?
Also I would look at lubrication/cleaning. What I see is weird somehow – surface of the chain is very clean, but inside has a lot of gunk. I have honestly forgotten how chain w/o paraffin looks, but this one is weird…
It should not be like that after 400 km unless something is wrong. I had cheap bottom of the market chains don’t do that after 1000 km.
You can also wax your chain it’ll last longer if your environment isn’t too rainy and wet
1. Is this the right side of the tool as some tools have two sides for different chain types?
2. Lube is lube. Yes, some attract more dirt (muc off wet lube), and some attract even dirt when you are not riding (I am looking at you muc off hydrodynamic lube)
3. Maybe the clutch is on at your grx derailleur? This keeps the chain under constant tension for better shifting in rough conditions, but at the same time increases the wear a lot.
UPDATE . Seems that I have used the tool wrong 😑 and when used right is not sliding between the chain. Thanks for all the feedback. Got some new ideas.
