While majority of you kids are rocking wireless transmissions and mtb mullets, I, in preparation for upcoming bikepacking trip with significant amount of elevation (yes i live in north Germany, which is flat af) was looking to improve the gear ratio on my grizl cf sl6 as cheap/easy as possible.

Officially Shimano says that grx400 (46/30t at front) can support up to 36t at the rear.

There are options to use 11-40t 10speed cassette with goatlink, or by replacing stock B-tension screw to a longer version, however I just decided to go the easy way and see if it will work with stock grx components.

10 speed 11-40t Sunshine cassette from aliexpress for 17€ in total + KMC x10 chain (114links) for 15€ on sale and stock grx400 components (just screw the stock B-tension screw completely in) and yes sir, it works!

Thanks to Parktool RD adjustment video- all gears are shifting nice and clean, no chain rub or other issues (of course you should keep in mind not to cross chain).

First 60km test ride is done and now with terra hardpack 50mm tires, 46:11 on the high end and 30:40 on the low, looking forward to upcoming trip!
