  1. To add, they both had the old style round keys, and I have no idea what the key codes are

The red one is soooo cool, like museum worthy, the black one is just a regular u-lock though…

I’d look for a good locksmith to see if they could impression the lock to make a replacement key, for the older one at least. Maybe just use it in low security use cases for the nostalgia value.

  4. These look so old, you probably have a key in your drawer. It’s called a Bic pen.

Man you could even use the red one as a piece of decor if you really can’t get it to open. It looks super cool.

My town recycles anything made of metal that you drop off. I’d assume this type of recycling actually gets my town a profit?

::my bad, I didn’t read there were no keys. But if you have locks with keys sitting around::

Unhoused people often have a need for bike locks. Maybe check in with an outreach program near you? One of the programs near me just put bike locks on their suggested donations list

Send the red one to lock picking lawyer. He’ll figure out how to open it without a key.

  9. Take the red one to a locksmith. There is an excellent chance that they can pop it open with the bic pen trick.

Once it’s open it’s pretty simple to re-key or re-core the lock.

    That one is worth saving.

    The other, meh.

It is still a big useful lock for locking down things. If they can easily make a key for it then it’s still worth using as a secondary, garage lock or decoy lock but isn’t worth much otherwise.
