46/17 old man, fat, multiple knee surgeries, and arthritis in my knees and hips. I can maintain 19+ mph for multiple hours consecutively with minimal to no stopping (lights/crossings).
Top speed is silly because it’s only for 1 moment. Speed over distance or time is what really matters (avg MPH).
Learn to spin and get faster. 30 mph top speed with a 13 mph average, is still slow.

Go bomb some hills, and right before you hit the bottom/flat part, try to accelerate.

This calculator has been useful to see what cadence you need in which gearing for what speed:
I ride 51:17 and honestly with no wind 25-30 isn’t sustainable for more than a few minutes due to the cadence. I’d say 30max for a few seconds unless going downhill.
