The threads of the crank arm are almost completely stripped. The pedals fit fine on my other bikes and the pedal went on fairly smoothly putting in on this bike. I took it for one ride and both of them are like this.
I'm assuming the crank arms are just really old??
How did I manage to do this??

Pedals are side-specific – the left pedal has a reverse thread. It’s surprisingly common to see people force the right pedal on the left side and vise versa. This significantly weakens the thread, and switching back to the correct sides after will probably result in failure like this.
How are the bearings in the pedals?
They could’ve gotten stuck somehow and as you pedaled it kept tightening them to the crank until it the threads stripped. I’m assuming this is based on your description of the cranks being old.
Usually when I see this thing it’s over tightening mixed with misaligning the threads when you’re installing.
