So I've had my Light Bicycle AR25 gravel wheels since December 2022 and I've been very happy with them. Super light, super comfortable.

However, the hub started making a rattling noise and that soon became worse. When taking out the wheel to inspect, the cassette fell off together with the freehub body. It turns out the wheel axle has broken in two, leaving metal debris all over.

I inquired about warranty. Light Bicycle offers to send me a new axle (but I would have to pay shipping 38 USD). What do you think, is that an acceptable solution?

I’d see what the same axle would cost from another source. $38 shipping is a lot plus any potential tariffs depending on where it comes from. I would probably try to get the bearings replaced while you’re in there given the amount of metal shavings.

I’m guessing you are out of warranty? If they are happy to send a new axle and all is well then keep on trucking.

Not sure what you want from them if it’s an easy fix and the hub / rim is all good?

I would say it’s an okayish solution. Would be better if they’d send you a new one for free but it’s better than nothing. If you‘d have the wheels only for a few months and you‘d have to pay it would be unacceptable. Did you do any service to the freehub during its lifetime?
