  1. Sounds like a good excuse to build a 650b!

How do the Miyata numbers signify quality/lines? I’ve meant to look into this as there’s been a few great looking ones on my marketplace radar lately.

  2. some 110s had 27″ wheels and 512s have smaller 700c wheels (I think). if that’s the case with yours, getting the proper size wheels will give you that added clearance for a similar tire. of course, might be more than you want to spend for this swap

I don’t know how squeamish you are about your frame but this can be solved with a grinder. Only a couple mm is needed then do a couple passes of clear and you’re in business

  4. Better frames have tighter clearances. Those look like 27″ wheels. You just need a set of 700c wheels.

  5. Convert it to 650b with 42mm tires, you could use tektro R559 calipers, that should have enough reach to work.

  6. The 110 looks a bit older, it probably came with 27″ tires, versus the 510 was mid-late eighties and likely came with 700c. Assuming the 110 was 700c swapped, that means the 512 was designed with 4mm less clearance at least, and probably more because it was a more “serious” racer than the more commuter-oriented 110, and thus would have come with skinnier tires.

  7. It looks like it would clear fine if you dremel or file down that nub on the bridge. Not structural anyway.

  8. How are you getting brakes on that bad boy? I’d say file down the frame if you’ve got a disc tab on there somehow

Looks like you only need a couple millimeters. Maybe some smaller tires would clear. Or grind down the under side of that bridgeπŸ˜…

  10. I remember the before times. When we could go to a Performance Bikes and buy reasonably priced 27” tires. And they had more than one to choose from.

Seeing how many replies here suggest to file down the fucking brake mount (lol) I’m starting to think this sub was better off hacked 🀣

Not a good outlook for xbiking.
