    Derailleur looks fine, but that hanger is definitely bent. Happens fairly often in shipping, even on brand new bikes. Should be covered by the seller if you report this quickly… they should provide a new hanger! Contact the seller.

    Depending on their response, it might also be worthwhile just ordering a replacement hanger for yourself now. It’ll get you back on the bike sooner and mean you have a spare (always a good idea) in the future.

  2. Thank you very much! Glad it’s the hanger and not the derailleur. I sent a note to the shop and might get another one to be on my way as suggested.

    That said – there’s a bunch of other issues on this order, such as disk brakes that pulls to the bars, scratched top cap, etc that I need to reconcile with the shop. Not the best experience.

    I keep an extra hanger in my under seat bag. The hanger is intended to take the brunt of any impacts to the derailleur and I’ve had friends stranded by a broken or bent hanger. It’s an easy DIY if it needs to be replaced as long as you have one on hand.
