  1. Get that wheel trued! if your brakes aren’t making contact with that rim, they probably need to be tuned up as well. If you take care of your bike it will take care of you. Ride safe!

They are right get a spoke wrench and some time you could make it like new just take your time

  3. Rode worse at stupid high speed just expect that u will snap spokes at the worst time and keep snapping them until u fix it

Before you buy any tools it would be worth it to call your local bike shop and ask how much to true a pair of wheels.

If they want like 20 bucks a wheel that’s what I would do.

If you live in a progressive urban area there might even be a community oriented bike shop that would do it for basically nothing.

That amount of wobble will be noticeable but not necessarily a death trap. Enjoy the ride?

  6. That far out of spec indicates an accident or other shenanigans. I would replace if possible, but only send it after a professional truing. There was this urban legend that bike shops would hand out spoke keys as a way to drum up business since everyone would then try to make a minor adjustment and end up borking their wheels. People don’t often think about truing the wheel vertically, only laterally. Wheel hoops like the one in your video are probably more than a little vertically out of true. Park makes tools that measure this very well, they are fairly expensive, more expensive than a decent set of wheels. Using those tools is a science and an art, mad props to the wheel builders. It takes some time and practice to get good at truing.

Neither. It’s unlikely to break or kill you but it will become irreparable if it isn’t already. I’d avoid riding it until you get it trued.

  8. Your brakes will work like dogshit and as others have said its a $20 truing repair.

Its certainly not the safest and far enough outta true that you should have it fixed. Pay a pro, itll be cheap.

If that had disc brakes, I would honestly think “*wait until another weekend when I have spare time and a spoke key and an instructional Youtube video*”

But it has rim brakes, and the rim is like a chaos Pringle, so I think it should be straightened ASAP.

It’s a useful skill to learn!

  10. I don’t see a problem as much as an opportunity to learn a new skill. Without any specialised tools you should be able to take out the worst of the wobbles. Watch a video, use the brake callipers as your guide, grab your smallest shifting spanner, and go at it slowly and methodically.

And don’t make perfect the enemy of good enough. You won’t get it perfect.

The skill is handy because out on the road you have the ability to take out a wobble that might be causing brake issues. You can even fix a broken spoke if you’re a tourer and carry a spare.

If you fail, then take it to a bike shop. You’re no worse off for the experience.

One thing I do is spin the wheel and use chalk to mark the wobble spots. If I didn’t have chalk, I’d manage anyway. You probably will need something to mark the spokes you’re workin on. They all look the same after a few spins.

  11. Any one else want chipsallof a sudden?

Honestly though take some time to watch some videos on wheel truing and bust out the spoke wrench. Should be able to pull it out with some careful attention
