Bought a new Evoc 2 bike tailgate pad to protect my new truck and the tailgate got dented under where each bike sits. It did protect from scratches but .. !!! Is this surprising to anyone else?

Tailgate pad NEVER comes off now! Maybe get a second gate pad???
Looks like pretty minimal protection really. Check out race face /fox, they have a lot more protection in this area.
How do your stanchions look, now that they beat up your wife’s truck.

I ran the full version of that pad for years without issue. My bet is you whacked something against it pretty hard (pedal maybe?).
I get it, it sucks when your new truck gets scratched or dinged, but, like, it’s a truck. If you’re doing truck things with your truck, it’s gonna get banged up.
If you’re (read: your wife) really upset about it, a halfway decent PDR guy should be able to pop those out for a couple hundred bucks. Then I would invest in some kind of hitch rack.
Looks like you dropped the bike down on it or didn’t tie the bike down and went over some bumps. Mine works great.
I had a backcountry pad that didn’t hold up and wound up getting a hole in it where the bike went over the back of the tailgate causing some scratches on my downtube. Also, dented the downtube. Needless to say I won’t run a pad anymore and moved on to a 1up rack. I do miss the fact that the pad doesn’t make my truck even longer for post ride beers though.

This is why a hitch mounted bike rack will always be better. Zero contact between the bike and any paint or trim.
Ok, so hear me out… if you care about your bikes… you get a bike rack… if you care about your truck… and your bike, you get a bike rack… if you only care about the truck you put the bike in the bed…
If you have to show off to everyone you are a biker goin biking you buy a sleeve to slide on your tailgate so everyone can see that you are going BIIIIIIIKING.
Is there some benefit I am missing as to why everyone is using these sleeve things to cover their tailgates?
What the fuck happened to just tossing the bikes in the bed and closing the tonneau cover?
Or… how about you stand them up and tie the handlebars like a dirtbike if they MUST be seen?

Could be from all the pot holes in Thailand. Maybe Ford (or the aftermarket – 4×4 shop in Bangkok) have a heavier duty protector for the truck.
I use the larger version from the same company on my 2016 F150 and haven’t noticed this problem

I’ve got the same tailgate cover and a heavier duty one, but currently have this smaller one on. I’ll be checking out my tailgate tomorrow.
Sorry to see you had the same issue as I did with my Ranger. Solved it by adding a piece of foam pipe insulation underneath.
