Tip one: Always keep fluid in both bleeding reservoirs. (Your top one is empty, that is not good)
And just press and suck the fluid from around without getting one of the reservoir empty. (Also the syringe, keep the air in the syringe away from the hose)
Tip two: tap on the brakes hozes and parts while bleeding to help remove trapped air.
(I am used to bleed motorcycle brakes which has 2x 6piston calipers on one brake lever)
Yeah I learned I need a funnel adaptor half way through the job too

Well there is nothing in the top one, so you should probably get some advice

Park tool videos, don’t skip any steps and do every little anal thing they suggest. I swap and bleed my own hydraulics and my bleeds are better than any bike shop I’ve been to. Just don’t give up.

I found that it was easier to push the fluid from calipers to levers at least for front brakes where my syringe was big enough

It took me 2 hours to go through 10 videos & 3 web sites and fucking around to learn how to bleed bike brakes correctly. None of the videos or websites had complete instructions. Not even the manufacturer’s own documents.
Now it goes so quickly, every time. Patience, padawan. And remember, the internet always has advice and opinions on all the stupidest shit ever, except when you really need help.

For Tektro brakes, push fluid up from the calliper usually works best.
I don’t normally bleed tektros with a bucket though as like you’ve found they aren’t designed for it and use a different thread.
Using two syringes for tektros (like intended by manufacturer) gets a better bleed, it’s only really Shimano, hope and magura that get good bleeds from just using open buckets at the lever in my experience.

You’re supposed to bleed tektro with 2 syringes

I had great results pushing fluid upwards using a syringe from the caliper to the lever, so starting with an empty cup, and pushing a whole cups worth through upwards as a flush.

Thanks for all the advice! I was actually successful although very messy with this one, I will do some more research and do the rear brakes tomorrow.
The empty funnel is just for the photo, but I did empty the whole system first before filling it with fresh oil. As I understand this is a no-no, but the manual in the bleed kit advised to do it this way.

The post was about connecting the funnel to the wrong thread btw, the refill hole is under the middle screw.

Wastes a bit of oil, but you could use gravity, fill the cup, loosen it a the caliper and allow it to drain out
