Help me oracle with seaport info!

I need less than an inch extra on the standard post with the pentaclip flipped. It’s fine for commuting but recently doing +50km multi day bikepacking it really hurts my knees.

Carbon isn’t an option but happy to splurge on ti.

Knowing the standard seatpost is 520mm / 20.1”

Does anyone know what that measurement is? Is it base to tip? Or is it base to start of pentaclip section?

OPTIONS:

  • An extended seatpost with all the drawbacks of having a long seatpost for flying.

  • a telescopic seatpost with the extra weight and messing about to use it. (Has anyone trimmed their telescopic base to get to perfect length?)

  • third party options – can anyone confirm the lengths?

** hex 540mm

** ti parts 550mm

** bromptification 535mm

** h&h 540mm

Hopefully this formats right because reddit doesn’t let me test.

I believe the length is the total from bottom to top, remember to allow for a certain portion to be in the seat tube for safety, something like 3″, I think it is.

(If you buy a long steel or aluminium seat post, you should be able to cut excess length off, just don’t cut it too short, & don’t forget to smooth the cut edges.)

A telescopic seatpost really isn’t much more faff at all, the only times you’d need to properly drop it would be for air travel, otherwise just lock off the top and use a seatpost height insert to deal with the main height of the seatpost.
