Hi guys I ordered a Grizl 6 1BY, but this is my first time importing anything or buying from Canyon. I've seen a lot of conflicting information on this subreddit regarding whether or not duty is charged anymore since it seems to have been resolved within the past year.

I reached out to Canyon for a duty estimate (wasn't shown at checkout) and was told it was $0.00, but was also told in a separate email that Canyon couldn't provide the HS code of the bike, nor can they legally state that their bikes are of preferential EU origin. Many people in this subreddit have said that duty is only exempt when this phrase is stated in the commercial invoice?

Would anyone who's familiar with this process be able to clarify how exactly Canyon is able to give this estimate without this information and if it's even accurate?

Thank you:)

  1. Search the sub. There are multiple posts to this effect. Complete bikes and most cycling accessories aren’t subject to duty as Canada has a trade deal with the EU. If you do pay duties on the bike, they’ll be minimal to the tune of less than twenty bucks for possibly the wheels, as was the case with me.

If you want to guarantee this, wait until the bike is about to arrive at the border and tell UPS you want to “clears own,” then take the Canyon invoice they provide you to your nearest CBSA office for payment. Once paid, send the CBSA-stamped paperwork back to UPS and they’ll release the bike to you.
