Current Bike: 2020 Ibis Ripmo AF with Cascade Link and BTLOS Carbon Rims. Bought 4ish years ago, just the usual wear signs etc. Both the fork and shock need a service. The crank bearings probably need to be changed as well
I have just seen this bike be on sale (Spectral CF 8 Cllctv) https://www.canyon.com/en-au/outlet-bikes/mountain-bikes/spectral-cf-8-cllctv/50041645.html
Likely would be a cost of about $1,000 or so for the swap over. I would say I am a casual rider, riding twice a week. I have just moved to an area where the tracks are more downhill in style. I dont plan to do big jumps/drops etc and find the Ripmo is capable of doing everything. However, I would likely be able to ride the fireroads/roads uphill quicker with a carbon and it would prboably be my forever bike (for 5-10 years)
Help me decide and convince my partner.

Personally, I see any canyon as a day wngrade from an ibis, but I may just be a bit too biased to give fair advice.
Also, you’re giving carbon more credit than it deserves. It’s a great material and I have a handful of carbon bikes, but it isn’t going to be the reason you climb or rip fireroads better. The weight difference is negligible, and the ride characteristics aren’t as noticeable on a full suspension as it would be on a HT or rigid.
