Bought this Specialized Roubaix a few years ago slightly used. Markings were on the top tube when I bought it and had a local shop take a look at the bike as a whole beforehand and they told me the frame was sound. Can’t feel anything (e.g. a scraping or elevated bump, etc.) when running my finger along the areas. Also don’t feel any discernible squishiness anywhere.

I figured this might be an issue with the gloss/translucent paint showing the actual carbon fibers but a few people I know recently flagged that this might actually be something to worry about. Have done the coin test, etc. and nothing sounds concerning.

  1. Mate that frame is toast. I would not ride that bike ever again in my humble opinion

All I’m seeing in these photos is marks from where the frame was sanded smooth after coming out of the mold at the factory before clear coating. Nothing to be worried about.

Just part lines and ply drops. Nothing to worry about that’s how almost all bikes look like out of the mold.

  4. An ultrasound from a carbon repair shop could give you peace of mind if you want to pay them.

Thanks, all. Relieved to hear the general consensus isn’t that the frame is cooked beyond all reasonable doubt. I’ve sent photos into a carbon repair shop to get their opinion and may take it to my local Specialized store to have them give it a once over before doing anything crazy just for peace of mind. I’ll post an update when I hear back from either/both of them.
