I am quitting my job in July and plan to cycle to Nordcapp. On my projections I will reach Nordcapp in early September, and then plan to travel down to the Baltic states for October. The image is a rough route.
My concern is this will be quite a cold/wet trip and therefore unenjoyable. I have done a fair bit of touring before (Istanbul to UK last summer in 25 days, LEJOG and NC500 before that) and so know my daily limits etc! But that was a very warm journey, assuming this route will not be!
Has anyone else done this sort of route (or parts) in August/September/October and can advise on gear and route options? TIA!

There’s quite a few people who documented their Nordkapp trip on Youtube. May be worth a watch. It can be very rough. I want to do it too some day, but probably not alone. July/August is probably best above the polar circle weather wise. Oktober is already average max of below 5°C temperature at the Nordkapp plus lots of rain. From my research I can only say you don’t want to be up there that late. But I haven’t done it myself yet.

Bring bugspray, a headnet and a damn good rainjacket. For me Ballistol bugspray worked best.
I’ve done lots of different trips around in Scandinavia (I’m a Swede).
Do you have a reason to cross the Torneälv from Finland and go to Sweden? That part is pretty boring tbh. I’d highly recommend staying on the Finnish side and go to Uleåborg (Oulu) instead of Umeå. Better roads on the finnish side, you can buy cold beers in every store (😉).
Uleåborg is a better attraction than Umeå imo.
I’m going to North Cape myself this summer. Good luck!
Welcome to the North!
September above the arctic circle will be cold and wet. Prepare yourself for it.
