Your shifter is proabably a 2x/3x shifter, so long as you’re not dropping your chain as a result (if you do, just remember not to shift there) there’s no issue
Best solution tho is to buy a sram nx/gx eagle mini group off fb (from someone who’s upgrading) cheap and you’ll be in 1x 12s. Less likely to drop a chain, save weight, wider range, less parts…. It is the way 👌. Usually can be found super economically then you can turn around and flip what you take off.

Sometimes there is a little switch under the shifter. Maybe you changed it from 2 gears to 3.
