Way to stay calm. I love snakes, from a distance holy πŸ’©. What state or country are you in?

  2. Probably best to back right up and it would have left the trail on its own. Never antagonise snakes, they are placid and are only aggressive when they feel threatened.

Interesting to see this come up today, I had a 1.5m tiger snake on my run yesterday sunning himself in the middle of the track!

You did exactly what I would have done… use the front tire to “encourage” it to move along by keep the tire between you and the pointy parts. You don’t have to get very close, just enough to put pressure on them to leave. This works when the snake has plenty of escape routes, they generally like to “escape” instead of stand their ground and fight.

If you find a feisty one who choses to stand their ground, your ride turns into an out an back πŸ˜€

  4. If you back up, the snake will move on and go about its business.

Forcing the issues is asking for trouble.

Last summer in Brevard NC I had to hike a bike across a creek. Upstream of me on a rock was the largest timber rattle snake. Crazy to come across such a spicy maraca noodle.

  6. My grandmother used to say they would try and smell for cucumbers when they were picking blueberries. I used to think it was just an old wives tail, but it’s been proven rattlesnakes give off a smell that is similar to cucumbers.

  7. Snake has right of way. Should be on those signs showing horse-biker-hiker. Put snake on top
