See title…shopping and wondering if anything can rival the Honda Fit in terms of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down. Only looking at cars in this general size category (Mazda 3, toyota matrix, honda fit, suzuki SX4….you get the picture).
Yes, I know bike racks exist.

Fit? No the Element was always the gold standard IMO. The other option was the 1st gen Scion XB which if you can find one are pretty easy to work on and have a solid tuner community which means parts should still be easily available.
Judging by the photos, I think wheelbase and 29er become a factor. Like, older bikes with steep hta and shorter wheelbase might fit. But probably won’t fit a slack enduro 29er that way. On the other hand. Can just take off both wheels and pedals and should be able to fit 2 bikes in the fit no problem.
No.The Honda Fit is the ultimate form of transportation. It will never be surpassed. Do not consider any other options. Only disappointment will follow.
It’s not quite a subcompact but I love my golf I can throw a bike in the back without taking a single wheel off. I easily fit two bikes with front wheels removed and all of the gear (tool box, 2x full faces, pump, portable washer, pads, bag with spare clothes).
Had a Fit and now have a mazda3 hatchback. It’s more difficult to fit a bike into the Mazda due to the sloping roof. The fit was a great car.
It is an impressive machine. I can’t think of anything in the same segment which can fold its seats flat with all the room
in my opinion, theres no question. i have a first gen and i do the bikes the other way, one fork between the front seats and one behind the passenger. i can bring myself and a buddy for a day of riding and get 35+ mpg. three bikes if one is small. unreal how much you can get in a fit.
We had a 2008 Fit. It was the best around town car we ever had. Parking was so easy. It handled like a little go-cart. Zippy, nimble, simple. Like a dirt jumper. But living in Portland Oregon, if you want to mountain bike, you are spending two hours on a freeway. And the Fit does not shine at 75 mph. Enter the Subaru Forester, ultimate practicality, zero personality. Like an e-bike.
