Sorry, I'm sure you get a lot of questions about bike seats. I had my hip replaced in April 2024. This week I bought a Trek Verve 3 Gen 4 low step. The seat post has suspension on it. Nonetheless, the set feels painful on my right hip. I think it's too narrow and too hard. A lot of people in my Verve group recommend a Cloud 9 seat. I was going to order one tonight, but noticed it has big springs on it. Do I need both a suspension post AND seat springs? Seems to be a bit overkill. If the answer is no, will you please recommend a comfortable seat for me? Thank you.

I’d recommend checking local bike shops which often offer demo saddles. They usually let you try it out to see if it works for you since saddle fit is personal / body dependent. Correct size is also important which they should be able to help with. I don’t have experience with hip replacement & pain so no specific recommendations. Hope you find something that works.

a suspension post is good for unexpected bumps and rough roads but ideally you should be out of the saddle w unlocked arms + knees when you see a bump / pothole / etc coming. use your legs as the ‘shocks’

  3. If youre doing anything more than 3 miles get lined shorts, dont get a padded seat as they exacerbate pain. The hip thing could be due to a bad bike fit possibly?
