New week, new inspiration 🙂 This time it’s Vorarlberg, Austria’s westernmost region. It’s a joy to highlight a place like this – definitely not part of Europe’s cycling top list, and yet it has so much to offer: good cycling infrastructure, a high level of separation from car traffic and interesting places to discover. All set in a landscape that’s both beautiful and bike-friendly.
Vorarlberg has five marked cycling routes that almost form a multi-day loop. If you connect two of them – the Klostertal Route and the Bregenz Forest Route – on your own, using a public road through Lech, you’ll end up with a pleasant and surprisingly interesting route through one of Europe’s less-traveled regions. I show the full route on the blog, map included:
And – of course! 🙂 – cycling tourism isn’t just about pedaling. It’s also about discovering new things. In Vorarlberg, that means well-preserved landscapes, still largely untouched by big tourism (apart from a few places like Zürs) and real highlights like the region’s modern wooden architecture. Among these waymarked cycling routes, there are even a “few” kilometers along a former railway line, which, for us, is one of the most enjoyable kinds of cycling paths to ride.
