I seem to be unable to get rid of some vertical movement in my pentaclip, any suggestions ? Bike is brand new, torqued to spec and I have also stripped down and cleaned any residue from the plates and made sure it’s assembled correctly.

Still getting several mm of movement up and down when picking the bike up or sitting on the saddle.

I did think potential scuffing the side of the plate would help get a bit of friction but wanted to see if I was missing something

Any help appreciated!

That’s….odd,. firstly no scuffing necessary, if you haven’t done already check your washer and plate layout and ensure that’s correct. Realistically it’s under a heck of a lot of torque there shouldn’t be any movement at all so something strange is going on.

    Edit:

If it’s only vertical that rules out the Pentaclip as it would also rotate, I suggest you check your seat collar torque as well as any vertical movement that would be your culprit.

  2. I had a similar issue – I stripped and cleaned all the penta clip parts, reassembled and slightly over torqued by 2nm

    Might be worth a try

  3. Is worth getting a torque wrench to set it right. You might not have a long enough handle on your current wrench to set it well enough. My torque wrench is cheap but it’s more than a foot long.

  4. So you need the extra height of the flipped pentaclip? This way all the weight rests on the plate that is held by the bolt rather than the not moving part of the pentaclip.
Do NOT overtorque this bolt. Use friction enhancing compounds instead (eg “Carbon paste”).
I suggest you flip it around if you don’t need the extra height

Try an alternative clamp, as AceOffix, H&H or the like? And give it some Friction Pasta eventually
