Looking for a commuter with option for short bike packing trips. Thoughts on this Miele? Owner says it’s recently serviced and in great condition. Anything specific to look out for when I test it out?
A friend looked at the photos and said the drivetrain could be better and that it’s more of a road bike with gravel tires. Thoughts?

Owner is asking $350 CAD which seems steep but I’m also in a city where used bikes are a relatively hot commodity and everything is expensive
I don’t think you will enjoy that bar setup. That looks like a 27 inch road frame that was converted to smaller 700c wheels to allow for larger tire clearance. it is a lugged frame, good quality for its time.
if you did get that bike, you would probably want to get a different quill stem with a 31.8 clamp and some more modern bars. in order to have the budget for that, you would want to be paying more like 150 for the bike. I think you would be better off finding a bike with more modern bar, stem, and hood shapes rather than embarking on a cockpit rebuild project that will probably involve paying a shop to re-cable your brakes, buying different brake levers…
also, that bike does not have a nearly low enough gear to climb a hill with much cargo. So I think it’s got multiple problems that make it unsuitable for what you want.
I’d try to find a kona rove, salsa vaya, surly LHT, jamis aurora, etc. it’ll cost a couple hundred more but you’ll enjoy the cockpit more. I sometimes see those jamis touring bikes down around $300.
