this bike came without assembly instructions (one sticker on the box said ‘professional assembly recommended’ while another label said ‘professional assembly required’ 😤) i figured it out for the most part… but was left with this piece. where does it go?

Your fork is backwards
You should take it to a professional
Google it next time and you’ll find the answer in matter of seconds.
The stick/push rod is used together with the [box ](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QSj_FyGwrIWMoJn_qFpNLEXXhYE8w628R-GuqXVBMtobLc4SPshb308BLZtLColdRqpPr7VOl9ACBszvnF3KKaf9XaNtfQ=s1600-l75-e7)to shift gears. So remove the box from your Nexus 3 hub/rear wheel and insert it. After that you’ll need to calibrate it, 2nd gear should show the yellow part inside the designated area —> x <—-
I would recommend watching some ParkTool YouTube videos about bike assembly. Your fork being on backwards is a sign that there may be other things assembled incorrectly and rendering the bicycle unsafe.
I question more why ur front fork is on backwards including its fender.
But its indeed A gearing Pushrod. For a Shimano nexus 3 speed hub. Like mentioned. Before above
Not shaming you for trying to figure it out on your own. Kudos. But your fork is on backwards and that leads me to believe many areas of serious safety have been overlooked. I would take it to a bike shop and have them build it for you. There’s most certainly a charge on their labor menu for it and they most likely do it all the time
Yeah man, the fact that your fork is on backwards should be the biggest sign you should take it to a local bike shop and get it professionally built, the thing you are holding is some kind of problem solver , for what ? Who knows, you only posted one pic
I didn’t realize the internal gear hub, you definitely need to take it to someone who knows what they are doing
Honestly, get a professional mechanic to build it. Judging by the forks/fender and lack of knowledge I dread to think what else is wrong and what is torqued incorrectly. No shame in having a professional do it. Will probably be a better bike and last you longer too.
If you have a bike coop near you, they can help you learn by doing and be safe.
OP TAKE THIS TO A BIKE SHOP YESTERDAY BEFORE YOU KILL YOURSELF
Relax, it’s not rocket science. There must be a few friends with bicycles or you could browse pictures of bikes. You’ll figure it out. The rod in your hand is the shift rod to change gears. I think you have a nexus internal gear hub on the rear. On the sprocket side the axle has a hole axially through to the shift mechanism. Insert the rod there. Then couple the cable driven change box to the axle and secure with the rear screw or bolt. There is a process to line the yellow marks while the shifter is in second gear. Shorten or lengthen the cable by turning the adjusters at each end until the yellow marks align. Test it out.
