Hi, I bought an alfine 8 hub with a wheel, and somehow I think I disn't mount it right, since every time I've taken it apart and assembled it again the casette joint ends up pointing in this direction, or 180° from that. There seems to be no other way to install it, but in every picture I see of an alfine 8 I see the casette joint pointing straight at the pedalier.
Any ideas of what might I hace done wrong? I'm lost right now.

  1. If the gear arm (clutch) isn’t aligning then it isn’t installed on the hub correctly. There are indicating marks on the hub and the clutch to help you align it with the flat faces of the axle.

  2. Gloomy-Gazelle-9324 on

Try swapping lock washers from the left side to the right side and vice versa. If that doesn’t work check Shimano documentation about what local washer would provide different angles for the axle position. On one bike I did end up using green and yellow combinations. I am not even sure the blue washer is the correct one to use with 8-speed Alfine.

  3. You really need to go download the manual for your particular hub model and read through it. Internal gear hubs are not the simplest thing in the world to work on.
