University students leading months-long anti-corruption protests began gathering in Novi Pazar on Friday, ahead of a planned rally.

The movement was sparked by a deadly rail station collapse in November, widely blamed on government corruption.

Hundreds arrived after walking or cycling for days, bridging an ethnic divide stemming from the wars in the 1990s that followed the breakup of the former Yugoslav federation.

Meanwhile, thousands rallied in support of populist President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.

Vucic has accused Western intelligence of fuelling the protests, without evidence, as authorities threaten legal action against demonstrators, journalists, and prosecutors.
