So I recently purchased a 2017 Scott Genius 700 Plus Tuned on Offerup for $1300. I am also a noob with very little experience mountain biking.

What I am wondering is if I made a decent purchase, and if this bike is "Modern" enough for today. And how much of a difference would there be compared to a modern bike.

I sorta made this purchase impulsively because to be honest, I liked the color lol. I definitely should have done a bit more research because I think it is a bit big for me Size L (5'8").

The previous owners did some mods to modernize the bike including a 12 speed gearbox, 29" Wheels, and dropper post.

Right now, I will just be riding basic trails, but I plan to do some jumping and eventually would like to visit Big Bear bike park some day. Budget is under $2000

As of now, I know this bike is more than enough for my skill level, but I would still appreciate some feedback. Whether I should keep it or sell it and buy something else. Thanks in advance.

  1. Not too bad. Should be boost hub spacing and up to date with *most* modern “standards”. The geo will be lagging a little bit, but that shouldn’t be too bad. It’s certainly better than no bike, if that was what you had before.

keep it and get the biggest drop post you can find if that photo is the exact bike you bought. Also get a 35mm stem this will make the bars closer to you which is good if you think its a bit big

should have all modern standards other than UDH so maybe get a spare hanger
