Dunno what you are looking for feature wise / clearance wise but on pure aesthetics the Marin is worlds better looking with the color and the dropped stays. I frequently think Surly’s are not very attractive, and of course I realize not everyone shares this opinion.
I would go with the Marin and use the saved money to get other parts or accessories, like bags, lights, etc.

Marin, because of the carbon fork. Tried a lot of frame material with steel and carbon forks and the latter is noticable more comfortable.
