Depends on your riding, if you’re doing smoother trails then sure but I wouldn’t if I was doing rougher stuff than that. Also you might not even be able to with that drivetrain setup.

Put on a stem half that length and go for it. Otherwise the reach’ll be too long.

  3. I made a monster gravel bike (drop bar) with a similar starting point, and I’m about to turn it back into a flat bar MTB. It was better that way. But I did just buy a fancy new gravel bike. The monster gravel bike was fun, but a purpose built gravel bike is better in my experience.

Jones bars instead. Will be cheaper and probably ride better. Or leave it as is

Don’t know but if it’s carbon get that clamp off the top tube. Get it by the seat post

I wanted to convert from drop to flat due to upper back pain. I got three quotes from bike stores ranging from $600 to $1200. All three agreed they could keep my existing drive train (Jamis). Personally, I would keep the flat bars because they’re a lot more comfortable, but I understand there are performance reasons to go with drop. Try renting a road bike and riding that for a couple of hours. That might help you.

  7. I’d just get a dedicated drop bar bike tbh. Putting drops on an MTB is going to be a pretty expensive investment and if you don’t like it you are basically out of that money.

  8. Looks like it would be fun! The drivetrain might pose an issue. There might not be a brifter out there that matches the pull ratio of your derailleur, so you would have to upgrade the drivetrain to get the shifting on the lever, or get a friction shifter. Also, those are hydraulic brakes, so you would probably have to change out your brakes to ones that fit on drop bars. Unfortunately it’s not usually as easy as just hooking the current stuff up to a drop bar setup.

All of that is definitely doable, but expensive. That 600-1200 number someone posted sounds right. 600 won’t get you much quality though.

You can always mount the brakes and shifters to a drop bar the same way you have them mounted on the flat bar, but it wouldn’t be ideal.

For the record, I still think you should do it 🤙
