When our friends at @barbour invited us across the pond to tour their South Shields factory and HQ, we jumped on the next flight. Ben got the chance to step into the Barbour archives, watch new jackets being made by hand, and talk shop with Barbour’s team to find out why they are responsible for making some of the most legendary jackets in the industry.

  1. Another company that aint what they used to be, still living off the name they once had, such a shame, ive tried a few times to buy one but always found faults so returned them and ultimatley gave up, dont even strat me on the sizes, most have too high of an arm hole so if your on the shorter side in height and have anything near a 40 to 42 inch chest good luck getting one to fit, Levis are another company with the exact same problems, also keep in mind that most are not made in the UK anymore, if any, if your a short fat farmer, look elsewhere 🙂

  2. My first at 71. Wasted so much money over the years on other jackets because I thought Barbour was not affordable. So wrong! Buy once forever. I won’t live long enough now to wear it out. lol!

  3. Yes but the Ursula Jacket that is shown at 0:43 is not as the original military one, which had the two full orizzontally upper front pockets. This is a later one, which is the one that originated the International Wax Jacket. The original one is the one can be seen at 0:55

  4. I bought an excellent Corbridge jacket, I thought I’d bought British, but it’s NOT!

It’s MADE IN MOLDOVA… I found this on the care label ‘hidden’ inside the left pocket.😢

  5. I have three Barbours. I wear the Beacon Heritage (The Captain Cotton (Falklands war) with grenade hangers) the most, then the Trooper. If you buy one, you will be able to wear it for thirty years before you wear it out. They are not breathable and they become heavy when wet.

  6. I have four different Barbour jackets. Ashby, Bedale, Durham and Sapper. All for different weather. I just rewaxed the Durham and Sapper myself. They look like new and i am happy that i can take care of my own stuff. Bedale is my favourite. Goes with every outfit i have 👏

  7. I've had a dark blue Barbour waterproof and windproof anorak type hooded coat for many years, with the herringbone lining. This Barbour is still my go to garment when I'm down on the beach in the depths of winter time or walking through the forest. It's very warm, it's wind and waterproof, still looks like new and has outlasted my previous Berghaus anorak type jacket by several years. I did consider a Barbour waxed jacket at one time but there's really no need because my existing Barbour is superb. Fair enough, the traditional stylish look of a Barbour waxed jacket is appealiing but not necessary, unless I see a pre-owned one at a good price or a new one in the January sales.

  9. October 1996 my first Barbour international.
    I was 15.
It’s still with me today at 43 years old.
It’s something that tell the story and transmit the heritage of another world, of the past.
    Alwats beautifull ,always classy.
    A Barbour is forever

  10. I own 5 jackets
    They are all beautiful
Love the quality style and everything about them
One of the most iconic brands around the world !

  11. I thought they only did repairs in the uk now….

The only product I liked was the Liddlesdale quilted jacket. The wax stuff is unbearably hot and sweaty so useless for walking / hiking etc.

  12. What jacket did you buy in the last Clip? Looks like an international original wax jacket, but I see no belt and it looks short. Is this a new product from Barbour?

  13. I have won a Hereford Barbour Jacket. It arrived today. I tried it out and loved it. My wife worked at the Barbour factory in the 90's.
She had a lot of requests for the waders for the fishing family. It's great to watch vid's of this factory, and all the lads and lasses who make such a wonderful product. The wife works over the road to the Barbour factory now. Cheers.

  14. They don't even make that Beacon Sport Jacket in the UK. Pretty sure they only make the Bedale and Beaufort and Border jackets in South Shields now
